With the exceptional situation the U.S. faces with COVID-19, there are important procedures you need to know to vote in this year's general election.

How has the voting process changed due to COVID-19?Due to COVID-19, there may be fewer in-person polling stations in your county. States are pushing citizens to vote earlier or by mail to avoid long lines and crowds at these locations. Check with your Secretary of State website to see what your state's protocols are. For California: Every registered voter will automatically receive a vote-by-mail ballot Every registered voter can sign up to receive vote-by-mail balot tracking my text, email, or voice call You can either send your ballot in at least one week before it is due OR you can drop off your ballot at the office of the local election official.

How do I register to vote and how can I check if I'm already registered?You can register to vote and check your voter status through your Secretary of State's website. For California residents: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/election-2020/

Do I have to pay for postage?Some states will provide envelopes with pre-paid postage while others require you to purchase stamps. You can learn more information on your Secretary of State’s website. If you need to purchase stamps, you can pick them up at your local post office or buy them online. Also, many grocery stores and pharmacies also sell them at the cash register.

What if I experience any issues with my ballot?You can use a nonpartisan organization called Election Protection which works to ensure all voters have equal access and opportunity to vote. They utilize a wide range of tools to defend and advance the right to vote. They can provide you comprehensive information if you run into any trouble.
